TEACHING AND UPCOMING EVENTS CALENDAR

Spirit Rock: March 12, 1:30 – 4:30   MINDFULNESS AND CRAZY WISDOM

“Oh wondrous creatures, by what strange miracle do you so often not smile?” Hafiz

Treat yourself to a relaxing afternoon of mindfulness meditation – sitting and walking – interspersed with the poetry and humor of the ages. The afternoon will include guided meditations on the evolutionary origin of our body and emotions, reflections on death and dying, and an exploration of the tricky delusions of mind and the mystery of consciousness itself. Drawing on the book that became an underground classic, “Essential Crazy Wisdom,” we will hear from poets and crazy wisdom masters from Lao Tzu and Hafiz to Mark Twain and Lily Tomlin, giving us some perspective on this strange, impossible life we are leading. You may not get enlightened, but you are likely to have a few laughs and acquire a healthy dose of inspiration.

Spirit Rock: March 26th, 9:30-4:30       RELAXED AND AWAKE: A Mindfulness Meditation workshop with Feldenkrais Method movement with Wes Nisker and Dan Clurman

By changing our habits of movement we relax and awaken the body; by changing our habits of thinking we awaken and relax the mind. We can then join in the dance of existence with more freedom and ease. This workshop combines the traditional practice of Buddhist mindfulness meditation with sessions of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons. Feldenkrais is the brilliant sensory-motor approach to re-educating the nervous system and developing self-awareness. Periods of meditation will alternate with guided Feldenkrais movement lessons, allowing the techniques to support each other and create a sense of mind-body connection, vitality and well-being. During the sessions we will provide ample time for discussion and interviews, as well as give attention to individual challenges. The workshop is appropriate for both experienced and beginning students of either mindfulness meditation or The Feldenkrais Method®.
